In late 1974, ‘Kicker sportmagazin’ asked its readers to vote for the ‘Kicker of the Year’ (Kicker des Jahres). The magazine continued to publish the results of their survey up to 1991. Since a high number of people voted in these surveys, it might be interesting to consider this as an ‘alternative’ to the ‘German Footballer of the Year’ award:
